D9 — Installation
Correct installation is critical: the AI algorithms only reach their advertised accuracy when the camera is mounted level and within the recommended window zone.
1. Choose the Mounting Location
Install the D9 on the upper edge of the windshield, directly above the steering wheel.
General principles:
- Do not block the driver's line of sight.
- Do not disturb the driver while driving.
- Keep the device level — no tilt.
- The driver's face should appear in the center of the inward-facing camera preview (check in the Traqcam Connect app).
- The center of the front-camera image should align with the horizon.
Regional Rules
United States (FMCSA). The recorder may be installed anywhere from the top of the windshield down to 8.5 inches below the upper edge of the area swept by the wipers.
United Kingdom. The windshield is divided into zones:
- Area A — a vertical strip centred on the steering wheel, 29 cm wide (35 cm for vehicles > 3.5 t), within the wiper sweep.
- Area B — the remaining wiper-swept area.
No part of the dashcam (including the bracket and wires) should extend into Area A by more than 10 mm, nor into Area B by more than 40 mm.
The recommendations above are guidance, not legal advice. Always comply with the local laws of the country and region where the vehicle is registered.
2. Install the Memory Card
- Remove the 2 screws and the bezel on the side of the device.
- Insert the TF card (up to 256 GB, Class 10+, FAT32).
- Re-attach the bezel and the 2 screws.
Use a genuine, name-brand card rated at Class 10 or above. Cheap or counterfeit cards are the #1 cause of recording-invalid errors.
3. Install the 4G SIM Card
- Use the supplied card-retrieval pin to pop out the SIM tray.
- Insert a nano-SIM with an active data plan.
- Slide the tray back in until it clicks.
4. Wire the Device
Using the main power harness (labelled PWR):
| Wire | Connect to |
|---|---|
| Red (B+) | Positive terminal of the vehicle battery / fused ignition positive |
| Black (GND) | Negative terminal / chassis ground |
| Yellow (ACC) | ACC line — used to detect ignition on/off |
| White + Blue (SOS) | SOS / alarm button (SM-A dock) |
| Orange (RIGHT-IN) | Right turn-signal wire |
| Green (LEFT-IN) | Left turn-signal wire |
| GPS (4-pin BMW head) | External GPS antenna |
| AHD1 (4-pin BMW head) | Optional third AHD camera |
Recommended run:
- Power supply at the fuse box (bottom-left of the A-pillar trim)
- Alarm button near the driver, within reach
- Recorder host at the windshield mount
- GPS antenna on the dashboard or headliner with a clear sky view
Do not connect the device in front of or on top of any airbag. Do not place it where it obstructs the driver's view or interferes with steering, pedals, or gear lever.
5. Power On and Verify LEDs
After wiring is complete, turn the ignition ON and confirm:
| LED | Expected after ~30 s |
|---|---|
| Recording | Red solid (recording) or Blue solid (on, not recording) |
| 4G | Yellow blinking → Yellow solid once online |
| GPS | Green blinking → Green solid once positioned |
If one of the LEDs never reaches the expected state, see Troubleshooting.
6. Continue Configuration
With the device powered and LEDs healthy, continue to:
